Never Outgrowing Electro

August 12, 2010 by Katherine Barrows   Comments (2)

Used to really appreciate electro music back in my junior high days, don't ask me when was that.  My morning back then usually consisted of playing Planet Rock which at the beginning was making my mom crazy until she came to that point where she accepted that it was to be part of our morning routine just as coffee was.

My grandparents, who were and still are fanatics of Tom Jones' songs attributed my seemingly angsty attitude to electro music. They thought I was turning delusional and almost satanic because of the synthesizer.  They thought my anger would abate when they pressured me to enroll in a classical music class which I dropped after six months.  After that, they let me be as six months was the acceptable threshold for them.

Teachers at school were a bit accommodating to my leaning to electro music.  They usually assigned essay topics on musical genres which I completely enjoyed more than writing medicine essays in our health class.  Guess music was the one thing that kept me from opting to go homeschool. It was easier and more fun to study notes with a group of people rather than be on a one-on-one class with a drowsy coach.

Now that I am a grown-up, I still have that electro vibe in me.  Have all the Anthony Rother songs in my Ipod and actually have a synthesizer in my basement which I play whenever work permits me to be in the basement.  I'll never grow old of this genre, I'm afraid, which is not altogether a bad thing.
